This year, Barbie celebrates her 60th birthday and she is still always the focus of our attention. With an exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, a retrospective book published by Assouline and a dream house in Los Angeles available to rent on Airbnb, the most popular girls' toy since the 1950s has become a true pop icon over the years. She's also pretty influential in the fashion world. Last June, she received the prestigious Board of Directors' Tribute award at the CFDA Fashion Awards for her influence on American fashion. Good news for the nostalgic among us, Galeries Lafayette Haussmann is opening a pop-up in November dedicated to the pink candy universe of Barbie.
A pop-up in the colors of the iconic Mattel doll
After the success of its Harry Potter pop-up space, Galeries Lafayette Haussmann is celebrating the end of the year with another pop culture icon: Barbie. For the occasion of the 60th birthday of the Mattel doll, which came from the imagination of Ruth Handler in 1959, the Parisian department store is dedicating a pop-up to her in her colors with the center piece being none other than a life size Barbie Dream House, on display on the 5th floor. This will be a first in France that will certainly have quite an effect on children and adults alike. Nostalgia is guaranteed while marveling in front of collectors' pieces and other unique items available to buy while our eyes take in the showcases of the store, all dedicated to the history of Barbie.
